Parkinson's disease

Our lab is collaborating with the Department of Neurology at Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC to investigate various clinical manifestations, including psychiatric symptoms, in a genetic form of Parkinson’s disease (PD).  In addition to the motor impairment, PD patients commonly suffer from psychiatric symptoms including depression and anxiety. Identification of the LRRK2 gene as a hereditary contributor to PD allows us to test whether or not psychiatric symptoms are due to shared etiology, an emotional reaction to having a chronic debilitating disorder, or brain changes due to the disease.  The psychiatric portion of this study will be conducted at Rutgers.
